"'Don't be an idiot.' Changed my life."

For those "Office" fans, here is a quote that was said by Dwight Schrute and Michael Scott that I couldn't stop thinking about yesterday..
Michael Scott: "What is the most aspiring thing I ever said to you?"
Dwight Schrute: "'Don't be an idiot.' Changed my life."

So yesterday was quite an interesting day. The past couple days I have been deep cleaning the whole house. And I would have been done yesterday, but something happened...
I have had a pair of sandals in the bathroom for a little while and they were there to remind me to clean them off because the bottoms had mud on them. Well, I decided that it was way past due to have these cleaned off and that I needed to do them before I forgot again. So I brought them outside to clean them off. Well, when I stepped outside the door closed (I can't remember if I meant to close it, or if it closed on it's own)...this is actually a problem for us. The handle is almost always locked, which means...once that door is closed, you are locked out. And this is exactly what happened to me. I realized this immediately and freaked! I had no shoes on, which thankfully I had the sandals with me (it's a good thing I wasn't taking out the trash or something). I had no keys, no phone, nothing. And, because it is becoming winter and it has been a little chilly out, we had no windows open..which means there was absolutely no way for me to get inside without a key.
I honestly did not know what to do. Kyle had just left about 20 minutes beforehand for school and he was going to be gone for 5 hours. I felt like I was honestly doomed. So, I went to our neighbors to use a phone. I tried calling Kyle, no answer. I tried calling our friend, Melissa, no answer. I called Melissa's husband, Forrest, and he answered! I asked him if Melissa was home, because she wasn't answering (Forrest was working at the time). He said that she should be. So, once I got off the phone I realized I had to walk to Melissa's house. I had absolutely no other option. And I definitely couldn't just hang out at our neighbors for 5 hours and I wasn't going to just hang out on the steps at our back door. So, I decided to walk the [at least] one mile to the Hammeren's....and let me tell ya, it was kind of scary. The only way to get there is walking along side the main road, State Street, and the cars are going 55-60 mph on the road. Luckily, there was a side walk for...half the time. But, I survived.
I hung out at the Hammeren's till Kyle was done with his school stuff. It was quite an adventure.

Things that I am oh so thankful for:
  1. That I had my sandals with me...or else I would've gone barefoot.
  2. The weather was nice; not friggid or chilly. And it wasn't rainy or snowy.
  3. The Hammeren's live pretty close.
  4. Getting there safely. I was afraid of a car accidentally swerving into me.
  5. That my calves weren't in as much pain as they were the day before (I'll explain..)
  6. For friends that are so nice to let me hang out at their house while they were gone.
  7. For locking myself out when I did, not an hour later when it would've been dark.
  8. For a Heavenly Father being there to help me and comfort me..
Explanation for #5: On Monday, Melissa and I worked out and afterward we stretched. Well, apparently I stretched my calves way too much which caused the bottom of my right foot to hurt really bad when I walked. This happens when your calves get too stretched out and it is straining the bottom of your foot (Forrest, being a physical therapist assistant-thank goodness for him!-explained this to me, but I know I missed a lot of the details..but that is the jist of it). So, my foot was hurting that night, but the next day my foot was fine, but my calves were killing me. I seriously looked retarded. I had 2 hurt calves, which led to 2 limping legs..try picturing that in your mind...And, honestly, they hurt so bad that I tried not walking so much. Anyway, yesterday they were feeling SO MUCH better. I could walk without limping, although they still hurt a little..it was definitely not bad at all...I can't imagine what it would've been like if they hurt still like before...

Anyway, thanks for reading!! Sorry it was such a long post, but I had so much to tell and explain!

Buzlightyear to the rescue!

You know that button on the ceiling of the car that connects you with "On Star?" Well, it is now officially called "Star Command"...I accidentally said that when I meant to say "On Star" and I didn't realize what I had said until Kyle started laughing and said, "Okay, Buzzlightyear"..and then that got us cracking up. haha. It was just one of those moments for me, I guess.

Count Your Many Blessings

Kyle and I spoke on Sunday about our attitude of gratitude and how it affects your marriage. I guess this is the real test, then, since I just lost my job. My friend, Cami, just posted on her blog things that she is thankful for and that really helped me realize that I do have a lot and the Lord does have a plan for us, we just need to have faith in him.
Here is what I am thankful for in my life today:
  1. I loving husband that will always be there for me, whether things are tough or not.
  2. Caring parents, from both sides, that watch out for us and help us along the way.
  3. A nice home to live in, that keeps us warm at night.
  4. A wonderful Savior that gave his life for me so that I may return home to my Heavenly Father one day.
  5. A loving Heavenly Father that is there always to guide and comfort us through this tough life.
  6. Good friends that are there to cheer us up and to help us when we are down.
  7. The temple, only 5 minutes away, to go to peace and comfort and to be closer to our Heavenly Father.
  8. For a wonderful ward.
  9. For being healthy, Kyle too. I haven't really gotten sick since I've been up here, and that is very good news for me. (*knock on wood*)
  10. And a wonderful life. Even though there have been tough times, I always seem to find the fun and joys in life. And, I really need to thank my Heavenly Father, once again, for that.
That is all, at least for now.

What are YOU thankful for?

(Thank you Cami for your wonderful post! http://myfriendni.blogspot.com/2010/11/being-thankful.html)

A life full of surprises

Last night I was let go from my job because they were overstaffed..I'm not quite sure why they let me go, unless they let a whole lot of people go. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I was told before that I was one of the best of the team. Yes, maybe I was technically still new, but there were still 2 other groups that were hired after me. So, unless they let go both of those groups, why would they let the more experienced one go over the barely trained people? They didn't even give me a warning, they just said to not come in tomorrow to work..I'm not mad at them or anything, it's just upsetting. And now Kyle and I have nothing to live off of.

If it's not too much to ask for, please keep Kyle and I in your prayers. Thanks.

Spontaneous is the way to go

So, last week was pretty hectic for the both of us. Well, mostly just Kyle. He had a couple tests along with some other things PLUS a talk to prepare. And as for me...I just had the talk, haha. But, for me, talks are very stressful and I hate speaking in front of people. Plus, work was just tiring, so it just added up...haha, I know, excuses, excuses. Kyle reminded me on the weekend that I should be grateful that I don't have a couple of tests piled up on that along with other assignments. I realized how grateful I am not to be in school...
But anyway, on Saturday Kyle studied for a test, took the test, and came home to prepare for the talk. Saturday for me, I prepared for my talk, made lunch, and prepared for my talk some more (it takes me longer to do things..). Later that day, at about 6ish we contemplated dinner. We ended up going out but we didn't know what we wanted.
Kyle likes to quiz my music skills, so he puts the iPod on shuffle and I have to guess the artist. This is what we did as we drove around finding food for dinner. I do alright, I get about half to 3/4 of them right, but not always on the first try. We've been doing this lately, and it's kind of fun. It was dark and we had been driving for a little while now and I was pretty turned around. He then shows up at the Thanksgiving Point and I still, to this day, have no clue how in the world we got there because I don' remember passing the freeway..and my sense of direction was all in whack. Then we decide to go on the freeway and drive north to see if there is anything to eat. We end up in Salt Lake, which I figure would happen, but it was so much fun! We ate at this restaurant that neither of us had eaten at before. It was deeeeelish! I love these spontaneous trips that we make. Plus, we were able to see the Salt Lake temple and all the other temples as we drove up there! Honestly, I love the Salt Lake valley, I'm not quite sure why..possibly because of all the temples around, or maybe it just brings back memories from traveling there each year growing up. When we get over the hill from Provo to the valley I like to find all the temples in the area (it's easier in the dark...when it's light out I can only guess..haha). And I love it at night because they're lit up and so pretty :)
Oh, and in case you were wondering, the talks went really well yesterday!
Life is good. And I love Kyle, he is such a sweetheart. If you heard what he said in his talk yesterday about me, you would have to agree with me...plus all the things he does for me. He brought me to tears when he said what he did..Thanks sweetie :)

My long lost shoes

A few years ago I got these shoes (VANS) that I absolutely loved to death. I wore them almost every day, and even through winter (even up in Rexburg, ID)..lets just say that they got worn out pretty quickly. Last year I had to chuck them because I figured I shouldn't wear them anymore since they looked so pathetic. Well, ever since I have been looking for them everywhere and it didn't help that I didn't know the name of the shoe except that they are VANS. I have been very sad to have let these shoes go, but you have to let something go at some point..Well, today I was successful on finding those mysterious shoes. I love them! And I want them...(hint hint, Kyle). Here is the website where I found them..and look!! There's a discount on them!!! http://www.takkens.com/mens-shoes/shoes-for-men/kvd-black-white-red. Oh and I want the one's that the picture shows to be...which I think are the white ones? Because I believe the black ones are completely black........

"Early to bed, early to rise"...is not quite how it works.

So this job has really played a part on my sleeping patterns. I have always had in mind that a typical person needs generally 6-8 hours of sleep. And for me, I always thought that I needed at least 8 hours to feel fully energized the next day. Well, I have found out that that is not how it works...I have been trying to go to bed at about 10pm everyday to get up just after 6am for work. I came across a blog post this morning about becoming an 'early bird'. I apparently have been looking at it wrong the whole time! I guess to become an early bird is to pay attention to when you are tired. When you can't keep your eyes open long enough, that means you're body needs some sleep and that you need to 'hit the hay!' To keep a schedule, wake up every morning (7 days a week) at the same time and your body will adjust to that. Each night your body will know how much sleep you need, according to the time you wake up, which is why you need to get to bed when you are tired. To know whether or not you are trully tired enough to sleep try reading a book. If you can't make it through 1-2 pages of the book, that means it's time for bed. And if you try going to bed and you're laying there for over 5 minutes, you aren't tired enough. And it doesn't matter how much sleep you get or how little, it's what your body knows is what you need (if that made sense). Here is the website where the blog is that I read about. She explains things a lot more (and better) than I do, maybe they'll be more helpful...http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/05/how-to-become-an-early-riser/
Anyway, this is how I am going to be doing things now and I'll let you know how it goes...although waking up at 6 on the weekends might not be what I had in mind...I don't know if that'll happen, but we'll see!

An October update

Okay, so I think I might have posted something about it before, but I'm not quite sure. So at the beginning of August I got a job with Select Staffing (which is through ModusLink) and they put me into data entry through their Apple account. I did that for about 2 and a half weeks which then they put me into training for an account called NAVTEQ. NAVTEQ is a raw map data distributor that updates nav discs for cars. I was being trained for the customer service position where I receive incoming calls for the updats. I trained in that for about 2 weeks. Those were a couple of the longest weeks that I have ever had. Last week I officially started working on the floor by myself. My schedule is 7-3 which is tiring but at the same time really nice to have because I get off so early. That is one thing that keeps me going, another is knowing that I will only have this job till Kyle is done with school which is [hopefully] under 2 years...I can and will survive. But, this job is really good though and I am so grateful to have. Some days are just hard because I am most definitely not a morning person! haha...but it is great to have nights off to spend with Kyle and most importantly the weekends!! :) I have never had a stable job like this where it has a set schedule..and I love it. It has been a definite change for me, but I could definitely get use to this. Anyway, Kyle is doing great in school! He is for sure ready to be done! haha...he hopes to be done spring of 2012. We cannot wait!
We are happy and doing great thought and both of us love this time of year....October: Halloween, November: Thanksgiving and December: CHRISTMAS!!!! :)
Well, that's it for now. Hope all is going well for all of you!

A Couple Things

1st thing: We got our desk!! And it is all set up! Last week we bought a really nice [and big] desk for the office. We got an awesome discount on it, along with the chair that we got for it. It all looks amazing! I love it and I know Kyle does too! It's a dark cherry wood, which I absolutely love! And there is just so much space for Kyle to work.
2nd thing: Last Saturday Kyle and I went to the BYU football game. It was my first football game to ever go to!! (Except for the few highschool football games I went to) But, for me, this was my very first professional football game and this was our first going to...so it's like a double wammy! But yeah, it was pretty fun and WE WON!!! GO BYU!!!! :) Anyway, that is all.
Hope all is well for you!

GAS LEAK.

So this happened about 2 weeks ago. I had previously posted something about the construction workers, and I don't know if I ever talked about the gas leak..but now I am.
Okay, so the whole story about finding out about the gas leak is a very long story and too much to explain...so here is the short version...
The drive home (or at least the attempt to drive home) took about an hour which I found out at that point by fireman. I was trying to find my way around all the stupid construction (or at least I thought it was only that..), but found my way behind our house back in some neighborhoods where it was blocked off by fireman and police which I figured by that point I could just park and walk down to the house..but, of course, I was stopped by a fireman explaining the situation. Sooo...here is what happened: the construction workers weren't paying attention, cut a major gas pipe line which led to about a thousand people getting evacuated for the evening. We didn't get to go home till about 10:30, which we found out only by watching the news. Oh, and our gas was turned off..so we couldn't get any hot water until we had a guy from Questar come out to turn it back on...we had to leave the next day for Vegas, which means that Kyle couldn't get a warm shower :( It was freeeeezing!! Poor guy. But yeah, so there's the story...it was quite annoying to have to drive around for so long to try and figure out what the stink was going on...they should seriously pay me back for gas and mileage. ;) But, it is definitely an interesting story to tell! And I am certainly glad everyone was okay and that there was no explosion!
